Lenovo S5 launched with Xiaomi Mi A1 looks, slim bezels, dual cameras and 3,000mAh battery

HIGHLIGHTS

● The Lenovo S5 price starts at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,300)

● It will go on sale from Friday, March 23 in China

● Lenovo launched two other smartphones alongside - K5, K5 Play

Lenovo has launched the S5 in China. The company has also launched the K5 and the K5 Play along side. While the S5 is a mid-tier phone, the K5 and the K5 Lite may be considered as more affordable offerings. The S5 is the one that really stands out though, since Lenovo's new phone looks remarkably like the Xiaomi Mi A1 only with slimmer bezels. Much of the hardware set inside is also the same that we've seen in the Mi A1. Only difference, seems to be the fact, that the Mi A1 is an Android One phone while the S5 runs Lenovo's custom software.

The Lenovo S5, with its all metal body and dual rear cameras looks remarkably like the Xiaomi Mi A1, which invariably means that it looks remarkably like the iPhone 7 Plus. Everything from the 2.5 D curved glass on the front to the antenna lines placement on the back, screams the iPhone. The only visible difference is seen in the fingerprint scanner placement. As opposed to the iPhone 7 Plus that comes with a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, the S5 sports one on the back.

Lenovo claims the S5 uses series 6000 aluminum in its construction and has been apparently created through 7 CNC processes, nano-injection molding, grinding, sandblasting, diamond trimming and anodising. Technicalities aside, the only visible difference, seems to be the fact that the S5 has a near bezel-less screen and an unusual aspect ratio of 18:9. The Mi A1 has thick bezels and a traditional aspect ratio of 16:9.

The S5 comes with a 5.7-inch FHD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. It runs Android Oreo-based ZUI 4.0 and is backed by a 3,000mAh battery.
On the camera front, the S5 comes with a dual camera system -- 13-megapixel+13-megapixel -- on the rear where one is monochrome while the other is RGB. On the front, the S5 comes with a 16-megapixel camera that also brings facial recoginition to it.

The Lenovo S5 will start selling -- in China -- from March 23 at a starting price of 999 Yuan (roughly Rs 10,290.88) for the base 3GB RAM, 32GB storage version, going all the way to 1,499 Yuan (roughly Rs 15,441.48) for the top-end 4GB RAM, 128GB storage version. The S5 will also be available in 3GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration for 1,199 Yuan (roughly Rs 12,348.50).
